KARACHI: A major theft incident ahead of Eid-ul-Adha has shocked residents and livestock traders in Karachi after 25 sacrificial goats worth approximately Rs1.9 million were stolen from the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. According to police officials, unidentified robbers carried out the theft in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 8, where the animals had been kept for sale before Eid.
The owner of the goats stated that he had brought the sacrificial animals to Karachi to sell during the busy Eid-ul-Adha season. The goats were tied with ropes at an open plot when the robbers allegedly arrived in a pickup vehicle and stole all 25 animals during the night.
Police confirmed that CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced and investigators are examining the recordings to identify the suspects. The livestock owner has also registered a First Information Report (FIR) at Malir Cantt Police Station.
Authorities said an investigation is underway and police teams are trying to trace the vehicle used in the robbery. The incident has raised concerns among cattle traders and livestock sellers operating in Karachi ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, a period when thousands of sacrificial animals are brought into the city for sale.
The goat theft occurred just a day after another major robbery targeting sacrificial animal traders on Malir Bridge in Karachi. According to police, three livestock traders from Rahim Yar Khan were robbed of Rs4.5 million in cash after leaving the Malir Bakra Mandi following successful animal sales.
Officials said six armed robbers riding three motorcycles intercepted the traders in broad daylight and escaped with the cash. CCTV footage from nearby areas is also being collected in that case.
With Eid-ul-Adha approaching, security concerns are increasing for livestock traders, buyers, and transporters in Karachi. Police have advised traders to avoid carrying large amounts of cash and to use secure transportation methods while conducting business at cattle markets across the city.
