HANGU: At least three soldiers were martyred and 17 others injured on Monday when terrorists attacked a Federal Constabulary (FC) fort in the Torawari area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Operations Asad Zubair said police and FC personnel retaliated, forcing the militants to flee. The injured security personnel were shifted to Doaba Hospital for treatment. Following the attack, police killed one of the terrorists’ facilitators in an encounter after he opened fire on security forces. A search operation is ongoing in the area, according to the District Police Officer (DPO).

The incident comes amid a rise in terrorist attacks across the country, particularly in KP and Balochistan, both of which share porous borders with Afghanistan. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reported that June saw 78 terrorist attacks nationwide, causing at least 100 deaths, including 53 security personnel, 39 civilians, six militants, and two peace committee members.

In total, violence and counter-terror operations resulted in 175 fatalities in June, comprising 55 security forces members, 77 militants, 41 civilians, and two local peace committee members. A total of 189 people were injured, including 126 security personnel and 63 civilians.

Security forces, alongside law enforcement agencies, continue targeted operations against militants. Earlier this month, 47 Indian-backed terrorists attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan were neutralized during operations in Balochistan’s Zhob district.
