ZHOB: Security forces have eliminated 47 terrorists attempting to infiltrate Pakistan’s Balochistan province from across the Afghan border, security sources confirmed on Tuesday.

According to details, the militants, belonging to the Indian-backed proxy group Fitna al-Khwaraj — a term used for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) — tried to cross into Sambaza, an area of Zhob district. Their movement was detected by Pakistani security forces, who launched an operation between August 7 and 9. All 47 militants were neutralized during the operation, sources said, adding that most of those killed were Afghan nationals.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in cross-border terrorism since the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan in 2021, with border districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan bearing the brunt.

A recent report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) revealed that 78 terrorist attacks were recorded in June alone, leaving at least 100 people dead and 189 injured. Among the fatalities were 53 security personnel, 39 civilians, six militants, and two peace committee members, highlighting the growing security challenges faced by Pakistan.
