China hails Pakistan Army as a cornerstone of South Asian stability

BEIJING: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir concluded a high-level official visit to China, aimed at strengthening the strategic and defence ties between the two nations. According to the ISPR, the Pakistani military chief held meetings with senior Chinese leadership, including Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, focusing on regional security, global challenges, and enhanced collaboration under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The Chinese leadership praised the Pakistan Army as a "cornerstone of resilience" and a "vital contributor to peace in South Asia," acknowledging its key role in promoting regional stability. Discussions also reaffirmed shared commitments to sovereign equality, multilateral cooperation, and long-term peace.

On the military front, COAS Munir met with General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, and senior officials of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Talks covered defence modernisation, joint training, counterterrorism, and operational coordination to counter hybrid and transnational threats.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed strong support for Pakistan's anti-terror efforts and stressed the importance of safeguarding Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to deepen strategic cooperation.

COAS Munir assured that Pakistan remains fully committed to protecting Chinese interests and strengthening military collaboration. A guard of honour at PLA Headquarters marked the enduring military camaraderie. The visit underscores growing politico-military ties and a joint resolve to advance peace and development in the region.
