LAHORE: The Consulate General of China in Lahore celebrated the 76th National Day of the People’s Republic of China with a grand reception at Pearl Continental Hotel. Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan was the chief guest, joined by ministers, secretaries, vice chancellors, diplomats, and distinguished guests.
In his address, Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren highlighted China’s remarkable achievements over the past seven decades, noting that the country now contributes nearly 30% to global economic growth and is projected to cross 140 trillion yuan in total economic output this year. He also underlined China’s advances in innovation, clean energy, healthcare, and education, calling them “landmark achievements that have improved the lives of the Chinese people and contributed to global progress.”
Expressing solidarity with the people of Punjab, Sindh, and other provinces hit by recent floods, Zhao conveyed condolences to the victims’ families and assured continued Chinese support in disaster relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Emphasizing the strength of China-Pakistan cooperation, he cited projects such as:
- The Sahiwal Power Plant, generating 9 billion kWh annually;
- Bahawalpur Solar Park, providing clean power to 200,000 families;
- Chinese agricultural expertise that boosted farmers’ income in Multan;
- Joint vocational training centers producing skilled Pakistani youth.
“China-Pakistan cooperation has always prioritized people’s well-being, industrial growth, and digital empowerment,” Zhao said.
The Consul General also announced the launch of the China-Pakistan Action Plan (2025–2029), aimed at deepening political trust, expanding trade, enhancing security collaboration, and strengthening people-to-people exchanges.
Looking ahead, Zhao pledged that China will work with Pakistan to advance CPEC 2.0, with a sharper focus on industry, agriculture, mining, and technology. He also said that both nations are preparing befitting celebrations for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2026, to be held in Beijing and Islamabad.
