Park Geonroung, the child star of the viral “Baby Shark Dance” video, has made his K-pop debut nearly a decade after gaining worldwide fame.
Now performing under the name Baby Shark Boy, Park released his first digital single, “WAVE,” on Thursday with the backing of Pinkfong Company, which owns the Baby Shark copyright.
Park was seven when he appeared in the original video, which has since surpassed 17.2 billion views, making it the most-watched video in YouTube history.
The 2016 song became a global phenomenon, inspiring dance trends, parodies and performances at high-profile events.
Speaking about his return to music, Park said the success of Baby Shark had connected him with audiences worldwide and encouraged him to pursue music again.
His new single “WAVE” begins with the familiar Baby Shark melody before moving into an electropop style. Park also contributed lyrics to the track.
The singer described the release as the beginning of a longer musical journey, saying he hopes to explore different sides of himself through music and other forms of content.
