New York: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in New York on Monday to participate in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where the issues of Palestine and Gaza are expected to take center stage.
The high-level segment of the UNGA will run from September 22 to 26, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif leading Pakistan’s delegation. According to the Foreign Office, the Prime Minister will call for the resolution of the disputes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Palestine.
On his arrival, FM Dar was welcomed by Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, along with Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh and other senior officials. The Foreign Office said Dar will accompany the Prime Minister in key engagements, represent Pakistan in multiple ministerial and high-level meetings, and hold over a dozen bilateral discussions with counterparts.
This year’s UNGA coincides with the UN’s 80th anniversary, convening around 150 world leaders amid ongoing wars and widespread protests. A major focus will be the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia.
