FBR extends Tax Year 2026 filing deadline to October 15

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2026 by 15 days to October 15, 2026.

According to an FBR circular, the extension was granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, following requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations.

The extension applies to taxpayers who were required to file their returns by September 30.

Earlier, the FBR had warned that taxpayers missing the September 30 deadline could face higher penalties after the “late filer” category was discontinued from October 1.

According to FBR sources, individuals failing to file returns could face penalties of up to Rs25,000, compared with Rs1,000 previously. The penalty for AOPs could rise to Rs50,000, while companies could face penalties of up to Rs100,000.

The FBR had also set September 30 as the deadline for businesses to complete sales tax and income tax registration.
