KARACHI: Widespread heavy rainfall struck several regions across Pakistan on Thursday, offering relief from the ongoing heatwave while raising concerns over potential flooding in vulnerable areas.

In Punjab, multiple cities including Sialkot, Gujrat, Chiniot, Kasur, Ferozewala, and Sargodha received heavy downpours, with thunder and lightning accompanying the showers. Nearby areas such as Daska, Narowal, Hafizabad, Safdarabad (Khanqah Dogran), Wazirabad, and Sukhiki also reported intense rainfall.

Residents in Narowal, Wazirabad, and surrounding localities experienced a drop in temperatures, with strong winds and showers making the weather pleasant. The rainfall helped break the prolonged heat spell that had gripped much of the region.

In Sindh and Balochistan, cities like Shahdadkot, Qambar, Mehar, Qubo Saeed Khan, and Sujawal Junejo were affected by moderate to heavy rainfall. Karachi witnessed a light morning drizzle that contributed to slightly cooler conditions.

Rain was also reported in Balochistan’s Sibi and surrounding towns. Heavy downpours were recorded in Dera Murad Jamali, Chhattar, Manjho Shori, and Nasirabad. Other cities including Jacobabad, Jhal Magsi, Osta Muhammad, Gandakha, and Bagh also experienced strong showers accompanied by gusty winds.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and provincial authorities have been placed on high alert by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Emergency response units and rescue agencies have been instructed to monitor vulnerable areas for possible urban flooding and respond swiftly if needed.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain in the coming days, especially in northern and central regions of the country.

Citizens are advised to stay indoors during intense weather activity and avoid unnecessary travel. Authorities are closely monitoring low-lying areas and water channels to mitigate the risk of flash floods and ensure public safety.
