ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has said that former prime minister Imran Khan is the primary obstacle to meaningful political dialogue, insisting that negotiations cannot move forward without his clear approval.

In remarks to a television channel, Rana Sanaullah said it was inconceivable that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would extend an offer for talks without consulting PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and relevant state institutions. He said while some Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders express willingness for dialogue, the party lacks a unified stance.

He added that Imran Khan has neither issued formal authorization for negotiations nor clarified his position. Referring to statements by Aleema Khan, Rana Sanaullah said it was evident that those engaging in talks without approval would not be accepted by PTI leadership.

The adviser further pointed to PTI’s call for a wheel-jam strike, saying such actions contradict claims of seeking dialogue. He alleged that since 2011, Imran Khan has consistently avoided negotiations and preferred political confrontation.

Rana Sanaullah said the government has made repeated offers for talks without imposing conditions, including holding meetings in the Speaker’s Chamber. He stressed that constructive dialogue requires clarity, adding that parliamentary leadership would soon determine the next steps during the National Assembly session.
