TEHRAN: Iran has confirmed that diplomatic exchanges with the United States are continuing through Pakistan following the recent failure of high-level negotiations. The development signals ongoing backchannel diplomacy aimed at easing tensions between the two longtime adversaries.

Speaking at a weekly press briefing, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated that several messages had been exchanged with the United States via Pakistan since the Iranian delegation returned to Tehran after the talks.

Baqaei also revealed that a Pakistani delegation is expected to arrive in Iran as part of continued diplomatic efforts. The engagement follows recent discussions held in Islamabad, where senior officials from both sides attempted to resolve ongoing disputes but failed to reach a breakthrough.

The Iranian spokesman reiterated that Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy remains non-negotiable under pressure or threats. However, he noted that aspects such as the level and type of uranium enrichment remain open for discussion, provided they align with Iran’s national needs.

According to multiple sources, negotiating teams from the United States and Iran may return to Islamabad later this week to resume talks. While no final date has been confirmed, diplomatic sources suggest that both parties are willing to continue negotiations in pursuit of a possible agreement.

The recent talks in Islamabad marked a significant moment, as they represented the first direct engagement between US and Iranian officials in over a decade. It was also the most senior-level interaction since the Iranian Revolution, highlighting the importance of the ongoing dialogue.

A fresh proposal has reportedly been shared with both sides, encouraging them to send delegations back to Pakistan to continue negotiations. The role of Pakistan as a mediator has gained prominence, positioning the country as a key diplomatic bridge in efforts to reduce regional tensions.

These continued exchanges reflect cautious optimism that dialogue between the US and Iran may eventually lead to de-escalation, despite persistent disagreements over nuclear policy and regional security concerns.
