KARACHI: The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has written to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) requesting a reasonable extension for tax filing due to persistent glitches and instability in the IRIS portal. The KTBA appreciates the FBR's efforts to address these issues through a dedicated committee but highlights the need for a stable system to ensure smooth tax filing.
The letter emphasizes that frequent backend modifications to the IRIS portal without prior notice have created confusion and undermined taxpayer confidence. Given these exceptional circumstances, the KTBA respectfully submits that taxpayers should be granted a reasonable extension to file their returns with confidence and clarity.
The KTBA has been engaging with the FBR over the past two months, sharing detailed observations and inconsistencies encountered within the portal. The association is hopeful for an immediate and effective resolution of the outlined problems and trusts that the FBR will consider this request favorably to ensure taxpayers are not adversely affected by factors beyond their control.
The extension would allow taxpayers sufficient time to file their returns without facing undue difficulties, promoting a seamless and efficient tax filing process. The FBR's prompt attention to this matter is crucial in maintaining taxpayer trust and confidence in the tax system.
