KARACHI: Karachi is bracing for a severe heatwave today, with temperatures expected to reach 40°C, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced. Coastal residents may feel even hotter, with the heat index rising to 45°C due to high humidity and minimal sea breeze.
Winds are blowing at 17 km/h from the west, while humidity levels remain high at 74%, intensifying the discomfort. Meteorological analyst Owais Hyder said a low-pressure system over Maharashtra is unlikely to bring rain to Sindh, meaning no relief from the heat is expected this week. Temperatures between 40°C and 41°C will persist from Wednesday to Friday.
Health experts advise drinking plenty of fluids like water, lemon water, and lassi, wearing light, loose clothing, and avoiding outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours. Using hats or umbrellas is recommended to protect from direct sunlight. Anyone experiencing dizziness, nausea, or weakness should seek immediate medical help.
