Karachi Kings on Tuesday renewed their Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise rights for another ten years, reaffirming what team officials described as a continued and long-term commitment to Pakistan cricket. The agreement followed team owner Salman Iqbal’s acceptance of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) renewal offer, ensuring the Kings will remain part of the HBL PSL through the next decade, the franchise said in a statement.
Salman Iqbal, one of the league’s earliest backers, had initially purchased the PSL’s most expensive franchise rights ahead of the debut 2016 season, at a time when international cricket had largely halted in Pakistan. Reflecting on the journey, Iqbal said the franchise’s early investment was about more than just buying a team. “In 2015, we stepped up to bring cricket back,” he said. “We didn’t just buy a team; we invested in restoring the nation’s cricketing glory.”
This renewal follows similar 10-year agreements recently signed by Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi, marking a phase of long-term franchise stability within the PSL.
Karachi Kings CEO Tariq Wasi welcomed the new contract period, noting the franchise’s growth since its inception. “We look forward to another decade of progress and growth, not just for the Kings but for the entire PSL ecosystem,” he said. Wasi added that the team’s priorities include strengthening fan engagement, improving on-field performances, and supporting the league’s expanding international footprint.
The franchise highlighted its longstanding partnership with the PCB, noting that both entities have worked collaboratively to elevate the PSL and support the return of international cricket to Pakistan. Karachi Kings also emphasised its contribution to player development, stating that several emerging talents who passed through its system have gone on to represent Pakistan at the national level.
With the new agreement now in place, Karachi Kings officials expressed optimism that the next ten years will provide a stronger platform for competitive cricket, commercial expansion, and deeper fan involvement, reinforcing the PSL’s role as Pakistan’s premier T20 league.
