The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather update, forecasting rain and thunderstorms in Karachi and several districts of Sindh from January 22 due to an approaching western weather system. According to the PMD Early Warning Centre, the system is expected to enter Sindh on Wednesday, increasing the chances of moderate to light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in Karachi.

As per the latest Karachi weather forecast, rainfall is also expected in multiple Sindh cities including Jamshoro, Dadu, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Naushahro Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad. The Met Office stated that weather conditions may change rapidly as the system develops, and residents should stay alert for further updates.

The PMD has advised citizens, especially those living in low-lying and vulnerable areas, to take precautionary measures during thunderstorms. Motorists have also been urged to drive carefully due to reduced visibility and slippery roads during rain. Fishermen and coastal communities in Karachi have been advised to remain cautious as gusty winds may accompany the weather system.

Earlier, on December 30, 2025, Karachi experienced its first winter rain of the season, with light drizzle reported in several parts of the city. The rainfall brought relief from prolonged dry weather, leading to a noticeable improvement in air quality and overall weather conditions. Many residents welcomed the change, saying the winter rain made the climate more pleasant.

Meanwhile, the PMD has forecast cold and dry weather across most parts of Pakistan over the next 12 hours. Very cold conditions are expected in hilly areas, while cloudy weather with light rain and light snowfall is likely at isolated locations in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Moderate to dense fog is also expected to develop over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during the night and early morning hours, which may disrupt road traffic and flight operations.

According to the latest temperature update, Islamabad and Muzaffarabad recorded 6°C, Lahore 9°C, Karachi 15°C, Peshawar 8°C, Quetta and Murree 1°C, and Gilgit 3°C. The PMD continues to monitor the situation and will issue advisories as required.
