KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a fresh weather advisory for Karachi, forecasting partly cloudy skies with a significant chance of thunderstorms and rain on March 28. According to the daily outlook provided by the weather service on Thursday, a persistent westerly wave continues to influence weather patterns across most parts of the country. This system is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall and windstorms to the provincial capital and several other districts in Sindh over the coming days.
For Friday, the city is expected to remain partly cloudy with temperatures ranging between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are predicted to surge between 80 and 90 percent during the daytime. However, the weather is likely to take a more intense turn on Saturday, March 28, as the mercury settles between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius amid rising chances of precipitation and lightning. The PMD has warned that these windstorms and hailstorms could potentially damage weak structures, including electric poles, billboards, and solar panels. Farmers have also been advised to take precautions to protect standing crops from hail damage.
In response to the forecast, the Pakistan Airport Authority has implemented strict precautionary measures at Jinnah International Airport to ensure the safety of aircraft operations. These measures include the mooring of light aircraft and the securing of loose equipment on the airfield to prevent collisions during high winds. Additionally, the authority has increased the number of bird shooters and scheduled fumigation sprays, as rainy conditions often lead to a rise in insects and birds within the aerodrome vicinity.
Beyond Karachi, the westerly disturbance is expected to trigger rain and thunderstorms in districts such as Jamshoro, Dadu, Sukkur, and Jacobabad. Isolated hailstorms are also possible in parts of Mirpurkhas and Hyderabad. Residents are urged to stay updated through official PMD channels and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours to ensure personal safety.
