KARACHI: Karachi welcomed a refreshing change on June 21, 2025, as the morning brought cloudy skies and light showers across several neighbourhoods, offering a much-needed reprieve from the recent heatwave.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), light drizzle was observed in areas like Lyari, Clifton, Maripur Road, Gulshan‑e‑Maymar, Sohrab Goth, Scheme 33, Federal B Area, Liaquatabad, University Road, Stadium Road, and. This early‑morning shower brought down humidity and eased the "heat‑index" that had surged above 40 °C in recent days.

Temperatures are expected to remain mild, hovering between 33–35 °C today, with the mercury likely to rise slightly to around 35–37 °C by Monday. The PMD forecasts continued cloudy skies accompanied by intermittent morning and evening drizzle over the next three days, thanks to sea breezes moderating the heat.

Meteorologists note that pre‑monsoon moist currents from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are pushing into Sindh, setting the stage for the seasonal monsoon expected later this month. Light showers alongside gusty winds and thunderstorms could affect upper Sindh regions such as Sukkur, Larkana, and Dadu from June 22–2.

The PMD issued an advisory urging residents to stay alert for low‑visibility conditions and advised securing vehicles and vulnerable structures, especially in areas prone to sudden wind gusts.

What this means for Karachiites?

Pleasant relief: Daytime comfort has improved significantly after weeks of oppressive heat.

Weather pattern: Expect daily variability with cloudy skies, cooler mornings, and occasional drizzle.

Caution advised: Be mindful of possible wind-driven dust or brief gusts when moving about early or late in the day.

In summary, Karachi's weather has shifted to a more agreeable pattern, with cooler temps, moisture in the air, and gentle rains creating a welcome break—signaling the gradual onset of the broader monsoon season
