KARACHI: Light drizzling in several areas of Karachi late Monday night brought a welcome shift in the city’s weather, providing relief from the recent heat and humidity.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city is expected to experience mostly cloudy and humid conditions throughout the day, with chances of light rainfall or drizzling. The maximum temperature in Karachi is forecast to remain between 32°C to 34°C, while southwesterly winds are blowing at a speed of 24 km/h. The current humidity level in the city stands at 74%, contributing to a muggy atmosphere despite the slight rain.
The PMD has also forecast a fresh spell of monsoon rain and thundershowers across various parts of the country. Monsoon currents are actively entering the upper and central regions of Pakistan, and a strengthening westerly wave is expected from August 5.
Heavy rainfall is anticipated to trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs in areas such as Chitral, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, and parts of Punjab and Kashmir from August 5 to 7. Urban flooding is also a concern for low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Lahore. Landslides may occur in hilly regions during this period.
