LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday announced the appointment of renowned international coach Mike Hesson as the new white-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, effective from May 26, 2025.

Hesson’s appointment follows a comprehensive selection process after the coaching position became vacant in April following Pakistan's tour of New Zealand. The PCB confirmed that the selection was made after evaluating numerous applications.

A seasoned coach with vast international experience, Hesson previously served as head coach of the New Zealand and Kenya national teams. He is also currently leading Islamabad United, the defending champions of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Welcoming the appointment, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated, “I am pleased to announce the appointment of former New Zealand cricketer and renowned coach Mike Hesson as the white-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s team.

“Mike brings with him a wealth of international experience and a proven track record of developing competitive sides. We look forward to his expertise and leadership in shaping the future of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket. Welcome to the team, Mike!”

Hesson’s ongoing association with Islamabad United in the PSL has given him valuable insight into the Pakistani cricketing setup and its domestic talent pool. His success with United, culminating in a PSL championship win, is seen as a strong endorsement of his coaching credentials.

The PCB hopes that Hesson’s appointment will provide stability and tactical clarity as Pakistan prepares for upcoming international white-ball series and ICC tournaments.

In related developments, the PCB has also announced the resumption of the postponed PSL Season 10 following the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. According to Chairman Naqvi, the remaining fixtures will resume on May 17, with the final scheduled for May 25.

Hesson’s transition to the national role is expected to be seamless, given his ongoing involvement in domestic cricket and familiarity with Pakistan’s player dynamics.

His primary focus will be to build a strong and consistent white-ball unit ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan is set to host early next year.
