QUETTA: The Balochistan government has launched emergency relief operations in Kingri Tehsil of Musakhel district following a 5.5-magnitude earthquake that struck early Sunday morning, causing widespread structural damage.

According to a government spokesperson, the tremor damaged hundreds of mud-built homes in the region. Five people were injured in various incidents, with two in critical condition due to collapsing structures. A detailed report on the overall damage will be released after ongoing assessments are completed.

Authorities have deployed relief teams to the affected areas to provide emergency assistance, including temporary shelters and essential supplies. The situation is being actively monitored by local and provincial officials.

The Seismological Center confirmed that the earthquake's epicenter was approximately 80 kilometers northwest of Dera Ghazi Khan. The strongest impact was recorded in the Rārāsham area, where two houses were completely destroyed and five others partially damaged. Three individuals sustained injuries in this area alone, as per local administration reports.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has mobilized response teams to evaluate the extent of the losses and support relief operations. Residents are advised to remain cautious amid the possibility of aftershocks.

Efforts are ongoing to ensure the timely delivery of aid and rehabilitation support for the affected communities. Further updates are expected as the damage assessments progress.
