ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has announced a uniform tariff reduction of Rs1.89 per unit for a three-month period, from August to October 2025. The decision, detailed in a notification issued on August 7 and available with Dawn.com, extends to K-Electric consumers, excluding lifeline and prepaid users.

Nepra stated that this negative quarterly adjustment will apply to bills for the specified months, even if issued before the notification’s release. Distribution companies (Discos) have been directed to follow all relevant court orders during the implementation process.

In a separate development, Nepra also approved a negative fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of Rs0.78 per unit for the consumers of all ex-Wapda distribution companies (XWDiscos), with the exception of K-Electric. This adjustment pertains to variations in fuel charges recorded in June 2025 and will reflect in electricity bills for August.

The FCA does not apply to lifeline, protected, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), or prepaid consumers. Nepra noted that if August bills had already been issued before this notification, the adjustment could be included in the following month’s bills.

Nepra’s decision follows a public hearing addressing overbilling concerns and a petition by XWDiscos to grant a negative quarterly adjustment of Rs1.80 per unit, aimed at returning around Rs53.4 billion to consumers. These savings stem from reduced capacity payments during the April-June quarter of FY2025.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) reported actual fuel costs of Rs7.68 per unit in June, down from the reference rate of Rs8.3341.
