OGRA raises petrol price, cuts diesel rate

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has revised petroleum product prices, increasing the price of petrol while reducing the rate of high-speed diesel.

According to a notification issued by OGRA on Tuesday, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs1.19 per litre, while the price of diesel has been reduced by Rs1.91 per litre.

Following the revision, petrol will now be available at Rs394.83 per litre, while the new price of diesel has been fixed at Rs395.85 per litre.

The latest adjustment will affect consumers across the country, with petrol users facing a modest increase while diesel consumers will receive some relief following the reduction.

The government has also continued the Petrol Relief Scheme for eligible consumers, providing subsidised petrol to motorcycle, Cingchi rickshaw and small-engine vehicle owners.

Under the scheme, motorcycle and Cingchi rickshaw owners are eligible for a discount of Rs100 per litre on up to 20 litres of petrol per month.

Owners of vehicles with engine capacity of up to 800cc can avail themselves of discounted petrol for up to 30 litres per month.

Eligible citizens can register for the scheme by sending an SMS to 9771. Applicants are required to send their registration details in the prescribed format, including the word “REG”, their CNIC number, vehicle registration number, the first word of their province name and the vehicle registration date.

After successful registration, applicants will receive a confirmation message on their registered mobile phone.

To obtain discounted petrol, registered beneficiaries are required to generate a token before visiting a petrol station.

For this purpose, applicants need to send “TOK” to 9771. They will then receive a token number through SMS, which must be presented at the petrol station to avail the discounted fuel.

Once the transaction is completed, a confirmation message will be sent to the beneficiary.

The Petrol Relief Scheme is aimed at providing targeted assistance to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and small-engine vehicles amid fluctuations in petroleum prices.

The latest OGRA revision comes as fuel prices remain a key concern for households and businesses, with changes in international oil prices and other costs influencing domestic petroleum rates.

The increase in petrol prices is likely to affect transport and commuting costs for consumers, while the reduction in diesel prices could provide some relief to sectors that rely heavily on diesel-powered vehicles and machinery.

Consumers have been advised to follow the official registration and token procedures to benefit from the subsidised petrol scheme.
