GAZA: The Gaza Health Ministry has reported that more than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed since the onset of the conflict, marking a devastating toll amid an escalating humanitarian crisis. The grim announcement comes as the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a global hunger monitoring body, issued a stark warning about a looming famine in Gaza.

The IPC highlighted that a worst-case famine scenario is unfolding, driven by man-made starvation, widespread malnutrition, and disease. The organization stressed that immediate action is crucial to end the ongoing violence and allow unimpeded access for humanitarian aid, particularly food supplies.

“Mounting evidence shows that widespread starvation, malnutrition, and disease are driving a rise in hunger-related deaths,” the IPC said in a recent alert. The group is preparing to conduct a formal analysis that could lead to Gaza being officially classified as “in famine.” Such a designation is intended to increase international pressure on Israel to allow significantly more food deliveries into the territory.

However, despite the looming catastrophe, the main obstacle remains Israel’s continued restriction on aid convoys. Currently, only a limited number of trucks carrying supplies are permitted to enter Gaza, insufficient for the needs of its 2.1 million residents.

The humanitarian situation is deteriorating rapidly, with concerns that failure to act decisively could lead to widespread death and suffering. International organizations continue to call for urgent ceasefire measures and unblocked humanitarian corridors to avert a full-scale famine and further loss of life in Gaza.
