BÜRGENSTOCK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting dialogue and diplomacy aimed at achieving a peaceful and lasting resolution between the United States and Iran, following encouraging progress in high-level negotiations held in Switzerland.
In a statement shared on X, the prime minister announced the successful conclusion of the first high-level committee meeting conducted under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding in Bürgenstock. He described the discussions as positive and constructive, highlighting significant developments that could pave the way for improved relations between Washington and Tehran.
According to Shehbaz Sharif, the talks resulted in an agreement on a roadmap toward a final deal within the next 60 days. The participants also agreed to establish a high-level committee to provide political oversight and ensure continued engagement throughout the negotiation process. Additionally, technical-level discussions will continue to address key issues and advance the agreed framework.
The prime minister praised the leadership of both the United States and Iran for demonstrating commitment to constructive engagement and pursuing diplomatic solutions. He also expressed gratitude to friendly nations that supported the process, particularly Qatar, for helping create favorable conditions for dialogue.
Shehbaz Sharif further thanked Switzerland for hosting the negotiations and acknowledged the contributions of Pakistan’s leadership and diplomatic team. He paid special tribute to Field Marshal Asim Munir, stating that his dedication, commitment, and perseverance played a significant role in achieving progress during the talks.
The prime minister also commended Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, officials of the Foreign Office, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for their efforts in facilitating the diplomatic initiative.
Meanwhile, Pakistan and Qatar, acting as mediators, announced that technical negotiations between the United States and Iran would continue throughout the week in Bürgenstock. In a joint statement, both mediators confirmed that the parties had agreed on a framework for ongoing discussions and addressing key regional concerns.
“Pakistan will continue to play its honest and sincere role in advancing dialogue and diplomacy towards a peaceful and lasting resolution,” the prime minister said, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to regional peace and stability.
