PESHAWAR: With the government’s deadline for the repatriation of Afghan refugees and other foreigners living illegally in Pakistan now expired, authorities will begin deportations from today (Monday).

On Sunday, a high-level meeting chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) reviewed the repatriation plan, attended online by district police and administration officials. Following the session, the provincial administration issued a 10-point directive outlining procedures for the return process.

The instructions called for close coordination between police and district administrations to ensure the safe and dignified repatriation of illegal foreigners, including Afghan nationals holding Proof of Registration (PoR) and Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) documents. However, it emphasized that foreigners legally residing in Pakistan on visas or passports must not face harassment.

Authorities were directed to provide adequate security during the operation and ensure that the process was conducted respectfully. Foreigners not listed on the FNSC dashboard and lacking valid documents would also be deported.

The directive warned landlords against renting property to illegal foreigners, with violators facing action under tenancy laws. Police and administrators were told to hold regular review meetings, while local elders and elected representatives were asked to assist in encouraging voluntary, dignified repatriation.
