ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, Pakistan reaffirmed its strong opposition to torture and its solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). In an official statement issued by the Foreign Office on Wednesday, Pakistan strongly condemned the acts of torture and inhumane treatment inflicted by occupying forces in both territories.

The statement emphasized that torture, in all its manifestations, is fundamentally opposed to the values of justice, mercy, and compassion that lie at the heart of Islamic teachings. "Islam upholds the sanctity and dignity of every human life," the Foreign Office stated, adding that any form of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment contradicts these core principles.

Pakistan underscored its commitment to eliminating torture through ongoing legal reforms, strengthened institutional safeguards, and improved oversight mechanisms aimed at ensuring accountability. The government is also working to support victims by offering essential medical, legal, and psychological assistance.

Highlighting the continued use of torture in occupied territories, the statement condemned the systematic abuse faced by the people of Palestine and IIOJK. It stressed that such actions are designed to suppress the legitimate right to self-determination and are clear violations of international human rights laws.

Pakistan called on the global community to take a firm stand against these violations, demand accountability from the occupying forces, and work collectively to protect the dignity and rights of the victims.
