ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s latest legislative move to assert sovereignty over the Occupied West Bank, calling it a blatant violation of international law and a dangerous step that threatens peace in the region.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Foreign Office criticized Israel’s unilateral annexation attempt, labeling it a deliberate and provocative act that disregards Palestinian rights and long-standing international norms. The move, it said, is part of Israel’s continued efforts to entrench its occupation and undermine the possibility of a peaceful resolution.
“These actions represent a serious escalation that endangers regional stability and the prospect for a just and lasting settlement,” stated Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan.
Pakistan called on the international community to urgently respond and hold Israel accountable for violating United Nations Security Council resolutions and international humanitarian law.
The spokesperson stressed that such measures are illegal and will not change the internationally recognized status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
Reaffirming its firm support for the Palestinian cause, Pakistan reiterated its backing for the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state. The statement emphasized that this state must be based on pre-June 1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
