ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially approved Pakistan’s participation in its scheduled ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match against India, putting an end to speculation surrounding the much-anticipated encounter.

According to a government statement, the Pakistan–India fixture will go ahead as planned on February 15 during the T20 World Cup. The decision followed a detailed briefing given to the prime minister by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The briefing covered the outcomes of high-level discussions involving the PCB, the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The government also reviewed formal requests made by the BCB to the PCB, along with consultations held with Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and other cricketing nations.

The deliberations focused on identifying a practical solution to the challenges Pakistan faced ahead of the tournament. The Government of Pakistan appreciated the supportive statement issued by BCB President Aminul Islam and acknowledged Bangladesh’s goodwill, reaffirming strong bilateral ties between the two countries.

After extensive multilateral consultations, the government directed the national team to participate in the February 15 match against India. Officials said the decision reflects Pakistan’s commitment to the spirit of cricket, the continuity of international competition, and the collective interests of all participating nations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with the people of Pakistan, conveyed their best wishes to the national side, expressing confidence that the “Men in Green” will represent the country with pride, sportsmanship, and determination on the world stage.
