ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while chairing a federal cabinet meeting on Thursday, praised Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and the economic team for their dedication in formulating the federal budget for fiscal year 2025–26. He also extended appreciation to the federal cabinet and coalition parties for their cooperation and support throughout the budget process.
Speaking on regional affairs, the prime minister welcomed the recent ceasefire between Iran and Israel, describing it as a vital step towards preventing further regional conflict and bloodshed. He thanked God for the peaceful development and acknowledged the constructive role played by several countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, in facilitating the truce.
PM Shehbaz noted that Iranian leadership had publicly expressed gratitude to Pakistan—including its people, military, and political leadership—for their contributions toward the ceasefire. He stated that Iran had specifically mentioned the President of Pakistan, himself, and the Field Marshal for their efforts in promoting peace.
On the matter of Iran’s strike on Qatar, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance, noting that the country had issued a condemnation and emphasized its strong ties with the Qatari nation.
Regarding preparations for Muharram ul Haram, PM Shehbaz instructed relevant authorities to ensure robust security during religious gatherings. He directed the Interior Minister to closely coordinate with provincial administrations, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir to maintain peace and order during the holy month.
The cabinet also offered Fateha for Major Moeez Abbas Shah, who was martyred in an anti-terror operation in South Waziristan.
