ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government has decided to release salaries and pensions of federal employees before Eid-ul-Adha 2026 to facilitate government workers and pensioners ahead of the religious festival. The decision was taken in view of the expected Eid holidays and rising financial needs during the festive season.
According to official sources, the Ministry of Finance has finalized arrangements for the early disbursement of salaries and pensions for May 2026. Payments to federal government employees and pensioners are likely to be issued on May 22, several days before Eid-ul-Adha celebrations begin across the country.
Sources said the advance salary and pension payments will be made under the Federal Government Receipts and Payments Rules 2025. The Controller General of Accounts has reportedly been directed to ensure the timely release of funds to avoid delays and provide relief to employees before Eid shopping and travel.
The Ministry of Finance has also instructed all concerned departments and institutions to immediately implement the decision regarding early salary payments. Government employees across Pakistan are expected to benefit from the move, especially amid rising inflation and increasing household expenses.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted that Eid-ul-Adha 2026 in Pakistan is likely to be observed on Wednesday, May 27. According to SUPARCO’s astronomical calculations, there is a strong possibility that the Dhul Hijjah moon will be sighted on Sunday, May 17.
The space agency stated that the moon for Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH will be born at 1:01am on May 17. By sunset, the moon’s age is expected to be approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes, which experts believe is generally sufficient for visibility with the naked eye.
SUPARCO further explained that coastal regions of Pakistan are likely to have better moon sighting conditions, as the difference between sunset and moonset will be around 60 minutes. The agency added that clear weather conditions could further improve visibility chances.
The announcement of advance salaries and pensions before Eid-ul-Adha 2026 has been welcomed by government employees and pensioners who are preparing for the upcoming religious occasion and increased expenses.
