ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Defence Minister has stated that any future retaliation by Pakistan will be directed solely at Indian military installations, deliberately avoiding civilian targets, in response to what he termed as India’s recent “misadventure.”
In an interview with a UK-based news agency, the minister asserted that tensions between Pakistan and India have escalated to a critical point, leaving little space for de-escalation. He described India's missile and drone attacks on Pakistani civilian infrastructure as cowardly and provocative, claiming such actions have further destabilized an already volatile situation.
Referring to Pakistan’s immediate military response, he highlighted the downing of five Indian fighter jets, including the much-touted Rafale aircraft. He criticized the performance of Indian pilots, stating that their lack of expertise was evident during the engagement. He also remarked that even the manufacturers of the Rafale jets have faced reputational damage due to how the aircraft were operated.
The defence minister confirmed that Pakistan has made a firm decision to respond decisively to any further drone incursions or aerial provocations. He emphasized that upcoming military responses would be focused entirely on strategic Indian defense targets, reiterating that Pakistan will not stoop to targeting civilian populations, unlike what he claimed was demonstrated by India.
He also noted that Pakistan's air defenses, particularly in Lahore, remained intact despite the attempted drone attacks, suggesting no significant damage was inflicted on critical infrastructure.
The minister expressed appreciation for the diplomatic efforts underway to prevent further escalation, noting the role of international stakeholders, particularly the United States, in initiating communication channels aimed at reducing hostilities. According to him, global actors are actively working behind the scenes to defuse tensions and restore peace in the region.
He concluded by accusing India of attempting to cover its embarrassment from recent military setbacks through further aggression, asserting that Pakistan remains vigilant and fully prepared to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
