ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Thursday announced that petroleum prices in Pakistan will remain unchanged for the next fortnight starting January 16, 2026, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Energy Petroleum Division. The decision comes at a time when fuel prices remain a key concern for consumers amid rising inflation and uncertainty in global oil markets.

As per the official notification, the price of High Speed Diesel HSD has been maintained at Rs257.08 per litre, while the petrol price in Pakistan will continue at Rs253.17 per litre. The unchanged petrol and diesel prices have drawn significant public attention, as fuel rates directly impact transportation costs, food prices, and overall cost of living.

The government reviews petroleum product prices on a fortnightly basis, taking into account international oil prices, exchange rate fluctuations, and changes in taxes and levies. Global crude oil prices have shown volatility in recent weeks due to geopolitical tensions, production decisions by oil-producing countries, and shifts in global demand. These factors play a major role in determining fuel prices in Pakistan.

Earlier, Business Recorder had reported that petrol and diesel prices could be reduced by up to Rs5.49 per litre for the upcoming fortnight, following a downward trend in global oil rates. However, the federal government decided to keep fuel prices unchanged to maintain fiscal stability and manage inflationary pressures.

At present, the government is charging Rs82.12 per litre in petroleum levy and climate support levy on petrol, while Rs77.91 per litre is being charged on High Speed Diesel. These taxes and levies remain a significant component of fuel prices and are closely monitored by economists and market analysts.

Petroleum prices, petrol price updates, and diesel rate changes remain among the most searched topics on Google in Pakistan, as consumers and businesses closely track fuel costs. The latest fuel price update is expected to influence inflation trends, transport fares, and overall economic activity in the coming weeks.
