MOSCOW: A passenger aircraft carrying 49 people has gone missing from radar in Russia’s far eastern Amur region, Governor Vasily Orlov announced on Thursday.
The Antonov-24 aircraft, operated by Angara Airlines, was en route from Blagoveshchensk to Tynda when it vanished from radar during its final approach. Rescue teams later located the aircraft’s burning fuselage, according to local media reports.
Preliminary information from regional authorities indicates there are no survivors from the crash. The passenger list included 43 individuals, among them five children, along with six crew members. However, Russia’s emergencies ministry estimated the number of people on board at approximately 40.
Governor Orlov confirmed that all necessary emergency teams have been mobilized for the search and rescue operation.
The crash occurred near Russia’s border with China, in a remote area that has posed challenges for quick response. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident.
