PMD predicts light to moderate rain in Karachi this evening

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday forecast light to moderate rainfall in Karachi starting this evening.

According to the department, the city is likely to experience intermittent showers under the influence of westerly winds, with rainfall expected to continue until tomorrow. Dusty conditions may also develop due to shifting wind patterns.

Humidity levels in Karachi have risen to 86 percent, causing a light haze to settle over the city. Winds are currently blowing gently from the northeast.

The PMD has also predicted rain in several districts of Balochistan, including Nokundi, Dalbandin, Nushki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Mastung, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Khuzdar, Kech, Panjgur, Gwadar, Awaran, Pasni, Ormara and Lasbela.

In most other parts of the country, cold and dry weather is expected over the next twelve hours. However, rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms is likely in parts of Balochistan, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Thal desert during the evening and night.

Morning temperatures recorded in major cities were as follows: Islamabad 9°C, Lahore 14°C, Karachi 22°C, Peshawar 11°C, Quetta 5°C, Gilgit 6°C, Murree 4°C and Muzaffarabad 8°C.

For Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, partly cloudy and very cold weather is expected in Srinagar, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian and Baramulla, while Jammu is likely to experience cold and dry conditions. Recorded temperatures this morning were: Srinagar 1°C, Jammu 11°C, Leh -9°C, Pulwama and Shopian -1°C, and Anantnag and Baramulla 0°C.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for rain in the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from today until tomorrow. Authorities have been directed to remain vigilant and ensure prompt restoration of road links in case of landslides.

The PDMA control room remains operational round the clock, and citizens can contact emergency helpline 1700 for assistance.
