Peshawar: A pre-dawn terrorist attack targeting a police station in Hasan Khel tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Peshawar district was successfully repelled by law enforcement personnel early Saturday morning. Police confirmed that two terrorists were killed in the retaliatory exchange of fire, while security operations are still ongoing in the area.

According to sources, heavily armed assailants launched a coordinated assault on the police station using heavy weaponry, triggering an intense gun battle with police personnel. Eyewitnesses and local sources reported the sounds of gunfire and explosions during the early hours, with the clash lasting for several hours.

Senior police officials described the attack as “high-risk,” citing the use of sophisticated arms and ammunition by the terrorists. Swift response by on-duty officers, coupled with the deployment of elite force units and reinforcements, was crucial in containing the situation and averting potential casualties among law enforcement.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar confirmed that two militants were neutralised during the firefight. However, he also indicated that more attackers may still be hiding in the vicinity, prompting a wider area sweep by police and paramilitary forces.

“All possible security measures are in place,” said the CCPO. “We are continuing the operation to eliminate any remaining threats and ensure the safety of the surrounding population.”

In the aftermath of the attack, a high alert has been issued across the region, particularly in sensitive areas. Security checkpoints have been strengthened, and aerial surveillance is being used to monitor movement in nearby areas.

This attack follows a foiled terrorist attempt on a police training school in Dera Ismail Khan earlier this week, which resulted in the martyrdom of seven security personnel and the killing of five terrorists.

As the situation in Hasan Khel develops, authorities have urged residents to remain indoors and report any suspicious activity. Further updates will be provided as the operation progresses.
