ISLAMABAD: The government has announced a nationwide public holiday on Thursday, February 5, in observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day. All federal and provincial government offices, semi-government institutions, banks, and educational establishments will remain closed for the day.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, February 5 will be observed as a public holiday across the country to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir. The notification also stated that a one-minute silence will be observed at 10:00am nationwide in memory of the martyrs of Kashmir.
Kashmir Solidarity Day is observed every year on February 5 to reaffirm Pakistan’s support for the people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict. The day reflects national unity with the Kashmiri people and their struggle for self-determination.
On this occasion, rallies, processions, seminars, and conferences are organized throughout the country and abroad. Political leaders, religious scholars, social activists, and public figures address gatherings, emphasizing solidarity with Kashmiris and calling for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
A notable tradition of the day is the formation of human chains on major routes leading to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, symbolizing unity and reassurance for the Kashmiri people. Participants stand hand in hand at key crossings to demonstrate collective support for their cause.
In addition, special cultural events are held to highlight Kashmiri heritage and traditions. Television channels broadcast special programs, documentaries, talk shows, and songs focusing on the hardships faced by Kashmiris. Educational institutions also arrange debates and discussion forums where students share perspectives on the Kashmir issue and possible solutions.
