LAHORE: A fresh weather system carrying rain is expected to move into Punjab later tonight, bringing cooler conditions across the province, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Saturday.
According to the forecast, the system will affect several districts including Rawalpindi, Sargodha, and Faisalabad from Sunday, while overall temperatures are likely to decline. The weather pattern is expected to persist in different parts of the country until February 3.
In Lahore, the minimum temperature is forecast to hover around 9°C, while the maximum is expected to reach 21°C.
The PMD warned that cold conditions will intensify nationwide from February 1 to 3. Rain is likely in parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Noshki, and Chaman, with snowfall expected in nearby mountainous regions.
Heavy snowfall and severe cold are also predicted in upper areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Authorities cautioned that snowfall may cause slippery roads and trigger landslides in hilly areas, urging travellers to exercise caution.
The department further noted that foggy conditions could reduce visibility in plains, prompting officials to remain on alert.
Earlier this month, record snowfall in Naran and Kaghan disrupted daily life, blocking roads and cutting electricity for several days, highlighting the potential challenges posed by extreme winter weather.
