The 2025 Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in India later this year, is facing increasing uncertainty as reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may withdraw from the tournament. The decision is reportedly due to ongoing political tensions with Pakistan, which has led to India’s reluctance to participate.
According to media reports, the BCCI is also hesitant about participating in the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup, set to take place in Sri Lanka in June. The growing discontent stems from Pakistan's leadership role in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), currently headed by Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
While no official statement has been made, it is believed that the BCCI has communicated its concerns to the ACC. Internal discussions within the Indian government are reportedly underway, with a final decision expected soon.
This move follows rising political and security tensions, particularly after recent military actions and incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. India and Pakistan have not played bilateral cricket since 2013, with encounters restricted to neutral venues during multi-nation events.
The ACC has not yet responded to these developments.
