BAJAUR – A senior leader of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Qari Amjad alias Mufti Muzahim, was killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted by security forces in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to security sources, the operation took place on the night of October 29–30, when forces detected and thwarted an infiltration attempt by a group of militants. In the ensuing engagement, four terrorists, including Qari Amjad, were eliminated.
Amjad, who served as the deputy to TTP chief Noor Wali Mehsud, also held multiple key positions within the banned outfit, including shadow defence minister and member of the TTP’s Rehbari Shura (council). He carried a bounty of Rs 5 million and was considered one of the most wanted terrorists by Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies.
Reports indicate that Amjad was directing terrorist operations inside Pakistan while operating from sanctuaries in Afghanistan. He was believed to have played a major role in organizing cross-border attacks and motivating militants in Bajaur and Mohmand regions.
Security officials stated that the leadership of the TTP and its affiliated network “Fitna al Khwarij” continue to exploit Afghan territory to launch attacks against Pakistan. Islamabad has once again urged the Interim Afghan Government to ensure its soil is not used for terrorism.
Following the operation, a sanitization and clearance effort has been launched in the area to eliminate any remaining threats. Officials reaffirmed that the armed forces remain resolute in their commitment to defend the country’s borders as part of the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign Azm-e-Istehkam, carried out under the National Action Plan (NAP).
