ISLAMABAD: As the high-stakes diplomatic engagement known as the Islamabad Talks commenced, Shehbaz Sharif held a key meeting with JD Vance in Islamabad, signaling renewed momentum toward regional peace efforts. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that the meeting focused on fostering constructive dialogue between the United States and Iran amid ongoing tensions.

The US delegation accompanying Vance included Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, highlighting the importance Washington attaches to the talks. On the Pakistani side, the prime minister was joined by Ishaq Dar and Mohsin Naqvi, reflecting a coordinated national approach.

During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the willingness of both the US and Iran to engage in meaningful negotiations. He expressed optimism that the Islamabad Talks would pave the way for durable peace and long-term stability in the region. Pakistan, he reiterated, remains committed to facilitating dialogue and bridging differences between the parties.

Earlier, JD Vance arrived in Islamabad to lead a high-level US delegation for discussions with Iran. Upon arrival, the delegation was received by senior Pakistani officials, including Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir. Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker was also present.

In parallel developments, a large Iranian delegation comprising over 70 members reached Islamabad to participate in the dialogue process. The talks come after a reported 15-day ceasefire, believed to have been facilitated by Pakistan’s leadership, including Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir.

Officials from Pakistan’s Foreign Office emphasized that the country remains committed to supporting peaceful conflict resolution and promoting regional stability. Analysts view these talks as a crucial opportunity to de-escalate tensions not only between the US and Iran but also across the broader Middle East.

With global attention focused on Islamabad, expectations are high that sustained diplomatic engagement will help prevent further conflict and stabilize geopolitical dynamics in the region.
