DOHA: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Doha on Thursday following the successful completion of his official visit to Saudi Arabia, marking another important step in Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement in the Middle East. Upon arrival in Doha, the premier and his delegation were warmly received by Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi.
During his visit, the prime minister is scheduled to hold a key bilateral meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The meeting is expected to focus on strengthening Pakistan-Qatar relations, enhancing economic cooperation, and discussing Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to promote regional and global peace.
A high-level delegation is accompanying the prime minister, reflecting the importance Islamabad attaches to its diplomatic ties with Qatar. Officials said the visit aims to boost bilateral trade, investment opportunities, and collaboration in energy and infrastructure sectors.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held an extensive meeting with Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah. The meeting, which lasted nearly two hours, covered a wide range of issues, particularly the evolving regional situation and peace initiatives. The prime minister expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives in recent regional tensions and reaffirmed that the people of Pakistan stand in solidarity with Saudi Arabia.
He also appreciated Saudi Arabia’s patience and restraint during challenging times, highlighting the importance of maintaining stability in the region. The prime minister briefed the Saudi leadership on Pakistan’s role in facilitating the recent US-Iran ceasefire and hosting historic talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad.
The Saudi crown prince commended Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role, including the efforts of Asim Munir, in promoting dialogue and reducing tensions. Analysts believe that Pakistan’s active diplomacy is strengthening its position as a key mediator in Middle East peace efforts while enhancing its global standing.
