KARACHI: The Sindh College Education Department has announced a complete ban on photography within government-run girls’ colleges across the province, cautioning that violations may result in disciplinary or legal action.
An official notification confirms that principals of all government girls’ colleges have been formally informed and instructed to ensure strict implementation of the directive. The decision follows an advisory issued by the special secretary for colleges, after which the Regional Director of College Education Karachi circulated official letters to institutions in the city.
According to the notification, photographs of female students were allegedly misused on social media platforms, an act described as a violation of prevailing laws as well as social and religious values. The department stated that it had received formal complaints regarding the unauthorised capturing and circulation of such images.
Taking serious notice of the matter, the special secretary for education highlighted incidents involving unauthorised photography of female students and teachers, followed by the sharing of images on Facebook, WhatsApp, and other digital platforms. In response, authorities decided to strictly prohibit all photography-related activities within college premises.
In a letter issued by College Education Regional Director Professor Qazi Arshad, it was further clarified that any breach of the ban would lead to disciplinary proceedings against the concerned principals and staff members.
Earlier, the Punjab government had also imposed a ban on mobile phone usage by teachers and students in schools, directing district education officers to strictly enforce the policy in both public and private institutions.
