KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially revised the Eid al Adha 2026 holidays schedule, announcing public holidays across the province from May 26 to May 28. The updated notification was issued after approval from Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah.
According to the revised notification, all provincial government offices, semi-government institutions, and autonomous bodies in Sindh will remain closed during the Eid holidays. Local councils and municipal corporations across the province have also been included in the official holiday schedule.
The Sindh government further directed that all offices across the province will operate on a work-from-home basis on Friday, May 29, following the Eid break. Officials said the move aims to facilitate employees and ensure smooth administrative functioning after the holidays.
However, departments providing essential services have been exempted from the revised Eid al Adha holidays. Hospitals, emergency services, law enforcement agencies, and other critical departments will continue normal operations throughout the holiday period.
The provincial administration also clarified that government officials involved in budget preparations and financial planning will continue to work during the Eid holidays. Authorities stated that these departments are required to complete important administrative and budget-related tasks before the new fiscal year.
Earlier, the federal government had also announced a three-day public holiday from May 26 to May 28 for Eid al Adha 2026. According to the federal notification, all federal offices and many private institutions across Pakistan will remain closed during the official holidays.
Meanwhile, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee had confirmed the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon during a central meeting held in Karachi on May 17. Following the moon sighting announcement, Eid ul Adha 2026 will be celebrated in Pakistan from May 27 to May 29.
The revised Eid holidays notification has become one of the top trending topics in Pakistan, especially among government employees, students, and private sector workers planning travel and family gatherings for Eid celebrations.
Citizens across Sindh have welcomed the updated Eid holiday schedule, while transport terminals, shopping centers, and markets are expected to witness increased activity ahead of the religious festival.
