SWAT: The body of a missing teenage boy, Abdullah, who was swept away in a flash flood in the Swat River nearly three weeks ago, was recovered after a 20-day search operation, confirmed Rescue 1122 officials. The body was discovered near the Ghaligay area and transported to a hospital for legal procedures before being sent to his hometown of Mardan.

The tragic incident occurred last month when sudden monsoon-triggered flooding overwhelmed a group of tourists picnicking along the Swat River. The powerful currents swept away 17 individuals, out of which only four survived. With Abdullah’s recovery, the death toll now stands at 13.

Many of the victims were part of a single family from Daska, making the tragedy even more heart-wrenching.

In response to the disaster, the Provincial Inspection Team submitted a 63-page inquiry report to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. The report revealed critical failures in disaster preparedness, coordination, and response. It pointed to negligence by various departments and officials, recommending disciplinary action.

The Chief Minister has approved legal and departmental proceedings. The District Administration, Irrigation Department, Local Government, and Rescue 1122 have been directed to take action within 60 days.
