WASHINGTON: Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday that Iran has asked the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as the country struggles with an internal leadership crisis during the ongoing Middle East conflict.

In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump stated that Iran informed the US it was in a “State of Collapse” and wanted the strategically important Hormuz Strait reopened as quickly as possible. The former US president said Iran was attempting to stabilize its leadership situation amid growing regional tensions and economic pressure.

“Iran has just informed us that they are in a ‘State of Collapse.’ They want us to ‘Open the Hormuz Strait,’ as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation,” Trump wrote on social media.

However, Trump did not explain how Iran allegedly communicated the message to the United States. Iranian authorities also did not issue any immediate response to the remarks, leaving uncertainty over the accuracy of the statement.

The White House declined to provide immediate clarification regarding Trump’s comments. The latest development comes at a time when tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high due to ongoing disagreements over regional security, sanctions, and military activity in the Gulf region.

According to Reuters, a US official said Trump was dissatisfied with Iran’s latest proposal aimed at ending the two-month conflict that has severely disrupted global energy supplies and increased fears of economic instability. The conflict has already contributed to rising oil prices, inflation concerns, and instability in international shipping routes.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, carrying nearly a fifth of global oil shipments. Any disruption in the waterway immediately impacts international crude oil markets and global trade.

Analysts believe that any agreement involving the reopening of the Hormuz Strait could ease pressure on energy markets and reduce fears of further escalation in the Middle East. Investors and global powers are closely monitoring developments as uncertainty surrounding Iran’s political and military situation continues to grow.
