US President Donald Trump has praised Pakistan’s leadership after Iran announced the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz during the ongoing Iran War 2026 ceasefire period. The development marks a significant step toward easing tensions in the Middle East and stabilizing global oil markets.

In a statement shared on social media, Trump expressed gratitude to Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir, acknowledging their role in facilitating diplomatic efforts. “Thank you to Pakistan and its great Prime Minister and Field Marshall, two fantastic people,” he stated, highlighting Pakistan’s involvement in mediating between Iran and the United States.

The announcement followed confirmation from Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi that the Strait of Hormuz has been fully reopened for all commercial vessels. He added that the passage would remain operational for the duration of the ceasefire, aligning with broader regional de-escalation efforts, including the Lebanon ceasefire.

Trump also claimed that Iran has agreed to never close the Strait of Hormuz again, a statement that, if upheld, could have long-term implications for global energy security. The strait is one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, and its closure during the recent conflict triggered concerns over supply disruptions and rising oil prices.

In addition to Pakistan, Trump extended his thanks to key Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, praising their “bravery and help” during the crisis. These countries played a role in supporting stability and facilitating coordination during heightened regional tensions.

Meanwhile, Trump criticized NATO, calling it “useless when needed” and a “paper tiger.” He revealed that the alliance had offered assistance after the situation improved but claimed their support was not timely during the peak of the crisis.

The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is expected to bring relief to global markets, particularly in the energy sector, as it ensures the uninterrupted flow of oil shipments. However, analysts caution that the ceasefire remains fragile, and sustained diplomatic engagement will be necessary to maintain long-term peace in the region.
