WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that his patience with Iran is running out following high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping amid growing tensions in the Middle East and rising concerns over global oil supplies.

Speaking during an interview on Fox News’ “Hannity” program, Trump said Iran must agree to a deal soon or face increased pressure from the United States. The comments came after Trump and Xi reportedly discussed the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the Strait of Hormuz shipping route, and global energy security during meetings in Beijing.

According to the White House, both leaders agreed on the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for international trade. The strategic waterway has faced major disruptions after Iran responded to U.S.-Israeli military strikes launched on February 28. The situation has created serious uncertainty in global oil markets, with energy prices remaining volatile.

Trump also addressed concerns over Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and nuclear ambitions. While insisting Iran should never obtain nuclear weapons, he suggested securing Iran’s uranium reserves may be more important for political messaging than military necessity.

China, one of Iran’s closest economic partners and the largest buyer of Iranian oil, reportedly opposed any attempt to militarise the Strait of Hormuz or introduce shipping tolls. Trump claimed Xi assured him that China would not provide military equipment to Iran during the crisis.

The regional conflict has also increased security threats across major shipping routes. An Indian cargo vessel carrying livestock from Africa to the UAE was reportedly sunk near Oman after being struck by a suspected missile or drone attack. Indian authorities confirmed that all 14 crew members were rescued safely by Oman’s coast guard.

In another alarming development, British maritime security officials reported that unauthorized individuals boarded a commercial ship anchored near Fujairah in the UAE and redirected it toward Iran. Security analysts believe Iranian personnel may have seized the vessel.

Despite international pressure, Tehran continues to deny accusations that it seeks nuclear weapons, while diplomatic negotiations between Iran and Western powers remain stalled.
