UNITED KINGDOM: UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, David Lammy, urged all parties to fulfill their obligations under international treaties, specifically addressing India’s recent suspension of its participation in the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) with Pakistan.

India's decision to suspend the IWT last month came after an attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which India blamed on Pakistan without presenting evidence. Pakistan denied the accusation and called for a neutral investigation. Lammy emphasized the importance of respecting such treaties, especially in relation to water rights, which could have serious consequences if disrupted.

Lammy, speaking during his two-day visit to Islamabad, stated, “We would urge all sides to meet their treaty obligations.” He also discussed Britain’s role in facilitating a lasting ceasefire between India and Pakistan, stating that the UK is working with the US to ensure peace continues. He noted that despite historical tensions, dialogue between the two nations was essential to prevent further escalation.

Regarding terrorism, Lammy expressed Britain’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in its fight against it, highlighting the severe regional impact. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump confirmed that his administration’s intervention had helped avert a potential nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan following the May 6-7 military escalation.

Trump described the situation as dangerously close to a nuclear war, but affirmed that through trade and diplomatic efforts, peace was restored between the two nuclear powers.
