ISLAMABAD: Direct negotiations between the United States and Iran have officially begun in Islamabad, marking a significant diplomatic breakthrough after years of strained relations. According to PTV News, the two sides are engaging in rare face-to-face discussions under what are being termed the Islamabad Talks.

The development has drawn global attention, as these are considered the highest-level direct talks between the two countries since the Islamic Revolution. It is also the first formal in-person engagement since the 2015 nuclear agreement, raising hopes for de-escalation following weeks of conflict.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif played a central role in facilitating the dialogue, holding separate meetings with both US and Iranian delegations. He expressed optimism that the talks would lead to sustainable peace in the Middle East and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting diplomatic solutions.

The US delegation is led by JD Vance, accompanied by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. On the Iranian side, senior officials including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Abbas Araghchi are representing Tehran’s interests.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that his delegation would negotiate with determination while safeguarding national interests. He stated that Iran remains committed to its people regardless of the outcome of the talks.

The Islamabad Talks are taking place under tight security as both delegations aim to resolve a six-week-long conflict that has heightened regional instability. Analysts suggest that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts have played a crucial role in bringing both sides to the negotiating table.

Global leaders and observers are closely monitoring the outcome of these discussions, which could significantly impact regional peace and global security. Positive signals from both sides have already boosted optimism for a possible ceasefire and long-term resolution.

As the dialogue progresses, expectations remain high that continued engagement will ease tensions and contribute to stability across the Middle East.
