KARACHI: Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the provincial government will distribute Pakistan’s first electric pink scooters exclusively for women, aimed at promoting mobility and empowerment.

According to Memon, the initiative has already received nearly 10,000 applications in its first phase. Of these applicants, around 150 women hold valid driving licenses, while the remainder have applied for learner permits. To support applicants, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has joined hands with the Sindh government to provide free motorcycle training and cover license fees.

Memon said if applications exceed the available 1,000 scooters, a transparent balloting process will be conducted to ensure fair distribution. The ballot will take place in the presence of media representatives, while a committee comprising officials from the Excise, Transport, and Finance departments along with journalists will oversee the process.

HOW TO APPLY:

Interested women can apply online by visiting the Sindh Mass Transit Authority’s website. Under the “Projects” section, they must click “EV Scooty Ballot Form – Application Form,” complete the details, attach required documents, and submit electronically.

Memon said this pioneering project reflects the government’s commitment to empowering women through safe, eco-friendly, and affordable transport solutions.
